Até a manhã desta quarta-feira (8/2, horário de Brasília), Turquia e Síria confirmaram mais de 9.600 pessoas mortas em seus territórios após o terremoto ocorrido na segunda-feira (6/2) – dois, na verdade, o principal com magnitude 7,8 – e outros tremores secundários. O número de vítimas torna os abalos sísmicos os mais mortais em mais de uma década.
De acordo com as autoridades turcas, 7.108 pessoas perderam a vida até agora. O governo sírio, por sua vez, aponta 1.250 mortes. E os Capacetes Brancos, socorristas voluntários nas áreas controladas por rebeldes na Síria, relataram pelo menos 1.280 mortes.
O presidente turco, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, decidiu ir à região sul do país, de acordo com informações da agência de notícias estatal Anadolu. Ele deve visitar o centro da cidade de Kahramanmaras e depois o distrito de Pazarcik, que foi o epicentro de um dos terremotos de segunda-feira.
Ainda nesta quarta, Erdogan deve terminar o dia na cidade de Hatay, para mais inspeções.
Dificuldades nas buscas
O mandatário turco vai se deparar com um série de dificuldade encontrada pelas equipes de resgate na busca por sobreviventes. Na Turquia e na Síria, essas operações chegam a ser interrompidas, principalmente, devido ao frio e às tempestades de neve. Mas também por causa das estruturas extremamente instáveis após os terremotos e os cerca de 200 tremores secundários.
“As pessoas estão perdendo aquele período de tempo no qual ainda podem sobreviver, se ficarem presas sob os escombros”, disse Shreen Mahmoud, integrante de uma instituição de caridade muçulmana em Londres, para a BBC Radio 5 Live. Com informações de Metrópoles.
