Em discurso durante a última sessão como presidente do Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE), na noite desta terça-feira (9/8), o ministro Edson Fachin disse ter “certeza inabalável de que a democracia se verga, mas não se dobra, nem quebra com as fake news” e que “o povo brasileiro elegerá, com paz, segurança e transparência, um presidente da República”.
Fachin assumiu a Corte em fevereiro deste ano e encerra a presidência no próximo dia 16, quando toma posse o ministro Alexandre de Moraes.
Ao seu sucessor, Fachin afirmou estar seguro de que o TSE está em boas mãos e ressaltou a “bondade e ternura” do colega.
Ao final da sessão, Moraes falou em nome dos outros ministros do TSE. Na fala, elogiou a atuação de Fachin em defesa do sistema eleitoral diante de “ataques covardes que pretendem moer as bases” da República. “Somos a única democracia no mundo que no mesmo dia proclama o resultado das eleições, dando estabilidade, segurança e tranquilidade aos eleitores brasileiros”, completou.
